Lakeland High School Update Submitted by Cyndi Dailey (Producer)

We began a journey four years ago to bring drama to Lakeland High School students. Many of our Lakeland Players members have been involved over the years in engaging the students and helping the school to put on Grease, The Night of January 16th, The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare - Abridged. Many of these students have gone on to appear in other Lakeland Players productions, attended Theatre Arts Camp and even, after graduation, have supported the program in so many ways.

We continued the 4th season, of a very successful partnership, between Lakeland Players and Lakeland High School with the Spring Play, FOOTLOOSE. Our Director Karen Miller, who is a first year teacher at Lakeland High School, and runs the after school Drama Workshops, thought this was a great show to do this year to engage students that have been involved in other productions with us at Lakeland as well as new students who might be interested in working on a show that had a little more modern flair. Footloose was performed on March 16, 17 and 18th at the Center for the Performing Arts. This show was originally written as a movie in 1984 starring Kevin Bacon and has many songs that we all grew up with, from Kenny Loggins, Sammy Hagar, Dean Pritchard and many more. In 2011 the movie was updated and rereleased and there was a renewed interest from the students. They spent long hours learning the dance routines, the songs and all the many things that went into making this show as successful as it was. There was great school, community and family support and it really shone through when the cast hit the stage. Some of us started four years ago when some of these students were Freshman and now we saw them, as Seniors, doing their last show and getting ready to go and experience the next "act" of life. We wish them all the best and know they will come back and lend their experience and applause to our future actors.

Thank you to all the Lakeland Players Members, family, friends, students and LHS facility who made this another memorable collaboration and great experience for the LHS Actors!

In Loving Memory of Marcus Marcero

It is with great sadness that I must pass on the news that Lakeland Players has lost a member. Marcus J. Marcero, husband of Sophia and father of Marshall and Dylan passed suddenly on April 21st at the age of 51.

The Marcero family has recently become very active in Lakeland Players with Dylan and Marshall both playing leading roles in E/R; Dylan having a major role in 13; Marshall working backstage crew and Sophia doing fantastic hair and makeup on several shows going back through Sweeney Todd . On behalf of Lakeland Players we offer condolences, prayers and best wishes to the Marcero family.
